Lighting
A curved steel arm on a marble base that reaches out about a metre. It is the answer to a reading corner with no ceiling point above it.
Stands behind the sofa and drops light exactly where you read.

Two joints let you set the reach and the height rather than take what you are given.

01 — The problem
Most living rooms have one light in the middle and nothing over the seating. An arc lamp moves the light without touching the wiring.
02 — The base
An arm reaching a metre out is a lever. Anything under about 8 kg at the foot will tip the first time someone catches it.
03 — The bulb
This is a task light. A warm 2700K bulb aimed down gives you a pool to read in and leaves the rest of the room soft.

Verified owners
There is no ceiling point over our chairs and I was not paying an electrician to add one. This reaches right over the sofa and the marble base does not budge. Foot switch on the cord so you are not bending down.
Nine kilos of marble sounds like overkill until you extend the arm all the way. It is completely stable. Assembly is three pieces and about ten minutes. Only note is that it is tall — measure if you have low ceilings.
